Rainforest Cafe Closes Iconic Edison Location, Leaving New Jersey with One Remaining Outpost

Edison, NJ – The Rainforest Cafe at Menlo Park Mall in Edison, New Jersey, has officially shut its doors, marking the end of a 27-year run as a beloved family dining destination. The closure, which took effect on February 19, reduces the themed restaurant chain’s presence in the Garden State to just one location, leaving fans mourning the loss of a nostalgic jungle experience.

Known for its immersive tropical rainforest atmosphere—complete with animatronic animals, periodic thunderstorms, waterfalls, and a menu featuring everything from burgers to seafood—the Rainforest Cafe had been a staple at Menlo Park Mall since opening in September 1998.

For nearly three decades, it offered a unique dining adventure that transported guests from the hustle of central New Jersey into a whimsical wilderness.

The decision to close was not due to lack of popularity but rather a failure to renew the restaurant’s lease. Terry Turney, Chief Operating Officer of Landry’s Inc., the parent company of Rainforest Cafe, expressed gratitude to the community in a statement: “For the last 26 years, Menlo Park Rainforest Cafe has been a beloved destination for families, bringing the magic of the jungle to the community. Unfortunately, our lease was not renewed, so we had no choice but to close our doors.” Turney added that the company is actively searching for a new location in the region, though no timeline or specific plans have been announced.

With the Edison location gone, the only remaining Rainforest Cafe in New Jersey is now situated on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, adjacent to Caesars. That outpost continues to draw visitors with its rainforest-themed charm, but for central Jersey residents, the loss of the Menlo Park location leaves a void.
