Attack unfolded on Lower East Side platform
Police say the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Monday on April 7, at the Rutgers Street and East Broadway subway station within the 7th Precinct and Transit District 4. According to authorities, the victim, a 30-year-old woman, was alone on the northbound platform of the F train when the unidentified man approached her from behind.
As the woman attempted to escape by heading up the escalator, the assailant grabbed her, pulled down her pants, and tried to rape her. She fought to call 911, but the attacker snatched her cellphone and threw it over the escalator side before fleeing the station on foot.
No injuries, but serious charges loom
The victim was not physically injured, police said. The attacker fled to an unknown location, and has not been seen since. The NYPD is treating the case as an attempted rape and robbery due to the destruction of the victim’s phone.
The man is described as being between 25 and 35 years old, with a light complexion, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds, with a thin build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, dark blue jeans, and white sneakers.
