Republicans easily fend off Democrats in Ocean County commissioner race

OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. — Republican candidates Jennifer Bacchione and Robert Arace decisively defeated Democratic challengers in the race for seats on the Ocean County Board of Commissioners, according to official election results. Bacchione led with 207,910 votes, or 34.74%, followed closely by Arace, who received 205,639 votes, securing the Republicans’ continued control of the board.

Democratic candidates Karen Sugden and Regina C. Discenza garnered significantly less support, with Sugden receiving 91,742 votes, or 15.33%, and Discenza earning 92,575 votes, amounting to 15.47%. The results underscore the Republican Party’s strong foothold in Ocean County, a region that consistently backs conservative candidates in local and national elections.

The overwhelming margin by which Bacchione and Arace won reflects the county’s deep-rooted Republican alignment, which has helped the party maintain a majority on the commissioner board for decades. Ocean County remains one of New Jersey’s most reliably Republican areas, contrasting with the state’s overall Democratic-leaning voter base.

This election continues the trend of Republican dominance in Ocean County government, where the GOP’s message on fiscal conservatism and local governance resonates strongly with voters. Despite efforts by Democrats to increase their presence, the party has struggled to make inroads in this solidly red part of New Jersey.

With these results, Bacchione and Arace will join the board to oversee county operations, including budgeting, infrastructure, and social services, reinforcing Republican priorities in Ocean County’s governance for the upcoming term.
