Retail Rage: Suspect Sought in Newark Dollar Store Rampage

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who caused damage inside a Dollar Tree store during a dispute with an employee on May 25.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:01 p.m. in the 1000 block of Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard. Authorities said the man entered the store and became involved in an argument with a cashier.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the suspect attempted to start a fight before knocking items off shelves and damaging a display rack. He then fled the scene, heading southbound on the street.

The department released an image of the suspect and is seeking assistance from anyone who may recognize him. The damage was limited to store property, and no injuries were reported.

“All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward,” officials stated in a public release.

Investigation underway as police pursue leads

Police have not released further details about the man’s identity or the cause of the altercation. Surveillance footage was reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Dollar Tree remained open following the incident. No arrests have been made as of Sunday.
