Delaware State Police say Smyrna man surrendered after investigators linked him to alleged firearm incident near Route 301
DOVER, DE — A road rage confrontation on Route 1 escalated into a felony case after a driver allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at another motorist before investigators tracked down the suspect and recovered the weapon, according to Delaware State Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, on southbound Route 1 near the exit for Route 301.
State police said the victim and the suspect became involved in a road rage dispute while traveling on Route 1. As the victim exited the highway, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim.
Troopers were provided with a description of the suspect, his clothing and the gray Mazda SUV he was driving.
Through the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Shawn Hubbard, 31, of Smyrna.
Troopers responded to Hubbard’s residence, where they located the gray Mazda. Police said Hubbard matched the physical description provided by the victim and was wearing the same clothing described during the incident.
A subsequent search of the Mazda led to the recovery of a loaded handgun, according to investigators.
Police later obtained an arrest warrant for Hubbard.
Later that day, Hubbard turned himself in at Delaware State Police Troop 9.
He was charged with felony aggravated menacing.
Hubbard was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
The charge against Hubbard is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
