Rockville police chief Victor V. Brito resigns after six years of service

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Victor V. Brito, the chief of the Rockville City Police Department, has submitted his resignation after six years in the role, the city announced on Friday, October 18, 2024. Brito’s last day will be November 22, 2024, according to a statement from City Manager Jeff Mihelich.

The announcement did not provide a reason for Brito’s resignation. During his tenure, Brito oversaw law enforcement efforts in the growing Rockville community, where he worked to maintain public safety and strengthen community relations.

“The City of Rockville and its leadership express their gratitude to Chief Brito for his dedicated service to protecting and serving our community,” said Mihelich in the news release.

As the city looks to transition, officials confirmed that recruitment for a new police chief will begin soon, with a focus on ensuring public safety remains a priority.

Brito’s departure marks the end of a notable period for the Rockville Police Department, and the search for his successor is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
