ROSEDALE, Md. — A Baltimore County man turned a birthday tradition into a $50,800 Maryland Lottery payday after using personal numbers tied to a recent celebration to hit a winning Pick 5 combination.
The Rosedale restaurant owner claimed the prize this week after matching the April 12 Pick 5 drawing numbers — 32370 — on a ticket he bought while stopping for gas at the Golden Ring Exxon on Philadelphia Road. The numbers came from a birthday-related item his mother had given him in March, according to Maryland Lottery officials.
The winner said he felt compelled to play the numbers after pulling out the birthday gift while at the gas station.
Family Delivered the Winning News
The man purchased two Pick 5 tickets that day — a $1 straight bet and a $1 box bet — before heading to work.
Later that evening, his wife and daughter checked the drawing results and realized the numbers had hit.

“My wife and daughter knew the numbers I played and checked for me,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials on Wednesday while claiming the prize in Baltimore. “They called and said I won $50,000.”
At first, he didn’t believe them.
The man said he checked the numbers himself before realizing he had matched the Pick 5 combination exactly for the game’s $50,000 straight-ticket prize. His box ticket also paid out an additional $800.
Excited by the unexpected win, he placed the ticket in a safe for protection before contacting the store where he bought it.
“They said I could cash the $800 winner there, but I had to go to the Lottery to cash the $50,000,” he said.
