HOLMDEL, N.J. — Rumson-Fair Haven answered Holmdel’s fourth-quarter touchdown with one of its own and beat the Hornets, 40-28, on Sept. 10 at Holmdel High School.
Brady Williams threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns and ran for three more, while Ryder Izzo rushed for 169 yards and the final touchdown as Rumson-Fair Haven improved to 3-0. The Bulldogs produced 242 yards on the ground and 248 through the air.
Holmdel stayed within striking distance for most of the night. Rumson-Fair Haven led 33-21 entering the fourth quarter before Tommy Fletcher connected with Anthony Serini for a 7-yard touchdown, cutting the margin to 33-28.
Izzo answered with a 29-yard touchdown run, and Jackson Wile’s extra point accounted for the final margin.
The teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter. Williams found Jason Tucker for a 22-yard score before Michael Todisco answered with an 8-yard touchdown run for Holmdel.
Williams began doing damage with his legs in the second quarter, scoring on runs of 2 and 9 yards. Todisco’s 19-yard touchdown run kept Holmdel even at 14 before Williams’ second rushing score put Rumson-Fair Haven back in front.
Williams then connected with Cole Spoonire for a 10-yard touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a 27-14 advantage. Fletcher and Serini answered with a 16-yard touchdown connection before halftime to cut it to 27-21.
Rumson-Fair Haven scored the only points of the third quarter when Williams ran for a 3-yard touchdown, his third rushing score of the game.
Williams completed 17 of 28 passes without an interception and added 66 yards on 14 carries. Spoonire caught five passes for 94 yards and a touchdown, while Tucker finished with three catches for 69 yards and a score.
Holmdel generated 417 yards of reported offense. Fletcher completed 21 of 32 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, while Serini caught 12 passes for 179 yards and both scores. Todisco rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
