Scooter rider dies after crash with Metro bus in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 60-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a crash involving a scooter and a Metro bus last week in Northeast DC.

The collision occurred on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at approximately 1:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast. Investigators determined that the man, identified as Keith North of Northeast DC, was stopped on a scooter at the intersection of N Street and Florida Avenue. As the Metro bus traveled southeast on Florida Avenue, the scooter rider accelerated through a stop sign and struck the side of the moving bus.

North, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Nov. 14.
