Scorching heat and storms in weekend forecast for New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. — A heat advisory remains in effect across New Jersey today, with heat index values expected to climb as high as 104 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory covers northern, central, and southern parts of the state and will remain in place until 8 p.m. Thursday. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

Today’s high will reach near 94 degrees under mostly sunny skies. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., with a 20% chance of precipitation. Winds will be from the west at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Tonight, skies will clear with a low around 73 and light southwest winds.

Friday will bring some relief from the heat, with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 86. Winds will shift northwest around 5 mph. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with lows dipping to around 67.

Saturday will see partly sunny skies and a high near 85. There’s a 30% chance of showers developing after 2 p.m., with light south winds. New rainfall amounts are expected to be minimal.

Saturday night carries a higher chance of rain, with showers and thunderstorms likely after 8 p.m. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a low near 72. Rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are expected, with higher totals possible in thunderstorms.
