Officers responded to the scene around 2 p.m. on October 1 and found Thomas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later, on October 3.

Reid was taken into custody near the location of the shooting shortly after the incident. Detectives initially charged him with attempted first-degree murder and related offenses.

Charges upgraded following victim’s death

Following Thomas’s death, investigators consulted with the State’s Attorney’s Office to amend the charges to first- and second-degree murder, along with related counts. Police say the suspect and victim were known to each other, though the motive remains under investigation.

Suspect held without bond

Reid is being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status as the investigation continues.
