SECAUCUS, NJ – The Secaucus Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit has made significant arrests following an investigation into illegal firearm trafficking, leading to the apprehension of an 18-year-old Newark resident.
Malahki E. Issac was initially arrested on March 14 for burglary and theft from a motor vehicle in Secaucus. Further investigation linked Issac to the trafficking of illegal firearms, culminating in his arrest on April 4 at 12:10 PM on Springfield Avenue, Newark. The charges against Issac include possession of stolen handguns and possession of handguns by a minor, based on a warrant issued for his involvement.
In collaboration with the Newark Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit, Issac’s residence on Muhammad Ali Avenue was secured and searched under court authorization. The operation, involving the Secaucus Anti-Crime Unit, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), led to the seizure of over 400 rounds of rifle ammunition, a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, and a Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun, the latter reported stolen from Winston-Salem, NC. Both handguns were discovered fully loaded with high-capacity magazines.
Additionally, during the search, a .38 Special revolver was found in a safe belonging to Issac’s grandmother, Lynda Steagell, 63, of Newark. Steagell was arrested as the firearm was not lawfully acquired.
