Secret Service shoots armed man outside White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Secret Service personnel shot an armed man early Sunday morning following a confrontation near 17th and F Streets NW, according to an official statement. At the time of the incident, President Trump was in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Authorities had received information Saturday about a suicidal individual possibly traveling to Washington, D.C., from Indiana. Around midnight, Secret Service agents located the individual’s parked vehicle and saw a person nearby matching the description.

When officers approached, the man allegedly brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which Secret Service personnel fired shots. The suspect was transported to a hospital, and his condition remains unknown.

No injuries to Secret Service agents were reported.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Force Investigations Team is reviewing the incident, which falls under its jurisdiction for officer-involved shootings in the District.

The shooting occurred just blocks from the White House, prompting a high-level investigation.
