Sen Testa demands answers on 3M Middlesex County pet project funding

TRENTON, N.J. — State Senator Michael Testa (R-01) is demanding an explanation from the Murphy administration over 18 budget line items totaling $193 million that were allocated to a single Middlesex County project.

Testa sent a letter to multiple administration officials this week, questioning why the funding—previously unaccounted for—was directed toward a project in Edison Township while schools and municipalities faced budget cuts.

The funding was first revealed in a report by NorthJersey.com, which detailed how the money was used for a county project that includes a baseball stadium with VIP luxury boxes, party decks, a large jumbotron, and a bar.

“I am outraged after learning from news reports that all $193 million of the 18 special line items went to a county project in Edison Township—with $153 million unconstitutionally funded from the Property Tax Relief Fund,” Testa wrote in his letter.

The Murphy administration has not yet publicly responded to Testa’s inquiry regarding the project’s funding.

Lawmakers are now calling for transparency after millions in state funds were quietly funneled into a single project.
