WILLINGBORO, N.J. — Sergeant John Michener, a lifelong Willingboro resident and a dedicated member of the Willingboro Police Department for over two decades, has retired following 25 years of public service.

Michener’s career began in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter and EMT before he joined the police department in 2000. Over the years, he held numerous roles, including K-9 Handler, Accident Investigator, Police Academy Instructor, Youth Police Academy Instructor, and Honor Guard member.

He was recognized for his work in community programs such as DARE, LEAD, and National Night Out and was part of a team deployed to assist New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
