Serious Two-Vehicle Collision in Berkeley Township

July 3, 2024

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – A severe motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Jamaica Blvd and Bimini Drive in Berkeley Township on the morning of July 3, 2024. Berkeley Township Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:15 AM where they found a tan Toyota Camry and a white Honda Civic both with substantial damage.

The initial investigation indicates that the Camry was traveling west on Jamaica Blvd and failed to heed the stop sign at Bimini Drive. As it entered the intersection, it was broadsided by the Civic, which was heading north on Bimini Drive. The impact propelled both vehicles off the road; the Camry ended up on a front lawn on Bimini Drive, and the Civic stopped on the northwest sidewalk of Jamaica Blvd.

The driver of the Camry sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle before being airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The driver of the Civic was transported by ambulance to Community Medical Center in Toms River.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI unit also responded to assist with the investigation. The crash is currently under investigation by Officer Ed Hendrickson of the Berkeley Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau. Witnesses or anyone with information regarding this crash are encouraged to contact the Traffic Safety Bureau at (732)-341-1132 ext. 2125. Information can be provided anonymously.
