Sherrill criticizes Jack Ciattarelli’s ties to Trump in union speech

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Rep. Mikie Sherrill criticized Republican Jack Ciattarelli on Tuesday during remarks to the New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council, citing his alignment with President Donald Trump and alleging a lack of support for union workers.

Sherrill, a Democrat representing New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, spoke to a crowd of labor leaders gathered in Atlantic City. She highlighted her legislative priorities in infrastructure, clean energy, and domestic manufacturing, pledging continued support for union jobs.

“From housing and transit to clean energy and manufacturing, I’ll invest in the workers who power our economy and make sure unions always have a seat at the table,” Sherrill said. She contrasted her stance with that of Ciattarelli, stating he “failed to stand up for working families when it mattered.”

Sherrill’s remarks come as the general election race heats up, with Ciattarelli running a campaign that has drawn continued support from pro-Trump constituencies. The former gubernatorial candidate has not disavowed Trump’s endorsement, aligning himself with several of the former president’s policies.

The New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council includes over a dozen unions across the state and represents more than 150,000 members.

Sherrill did not name Trump directly in her speech but pointed to what she described as Ciattarelli’s “alliance” with figures who have not prioritized union labor.
