Troopers release photo in theft investigation
NORWICH, N.Y. — New York State Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman accused of leaving a Walmart self-checkout with more than $830 worth of merchandise that investigators say was never scanned.
According to State Police, the incident occurred on July 30 at the Walmart in Norwich.
Investigators allege the woman scanned about $43 worth of merchandise at a self-checkout register but failed to scan approximately $830 in additional items before leaving the store.
Police said when a Walmart associate requested a receipt, the woman allegedly displayed what appeared to be an old crumpled receipt from a distance before continuing out of the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise.
State Police said the woman was accompanied by a man at one point while inside the store, although investigators said he did not leave with any merchandise.
Both individuals were later seen getting into a silver or gray sedan, according to police.
