Shopper’s lucky ticket in Freeport scores six-figure win

Freeport supermarket sells $100K Powerball ticket with Power Play

Freeport, NY – A Powerball ticket sold at a Nassau County supermarket has earned one lucky player $100,000, lottery officials announced Thursday.

The ticket was purchased at Gala Foods Supermarket, located at 111 West Merrick Road in Freeport. The ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball in the September 3 drawing. Because the player opted for the Power Play feature, the prize was doubled from $50,000 to $100,000.

The Powerball drawing is held three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. The winning numbers are drawn from a field of one to 69, with the separate Powerball number drawn from one to 26.

The New York Lottery highlighted that players across the state continue to benefit from the Power Play multiplier option, which can boost non-jackpot prizes up to tenfold depending on the draw.

Proceeds from lottery sales are directed to education funding in New York State. For the 2024-25 fiscal year, the lottery contributed $3.6 billion to support public schools.
