TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Senate has approved Senator Robert Singer’s bill (A-2138/S-1890) to establish a professional board for regulating home improvement and home elevation contractors. This legislation seeks to enhance consumer protection by introducing a licensure process for these contractors in New Jersey.
Senator Singer emphasized the bill’s role in increasing transparency and setting clear standards, aiming to give New Jersey residents confidence and peace of mind regarding the legitimacy of contractors. The new bill will replace the current law, creating the New Jersey State Board of Home Improvement and Home Elevation Contractors as the regulatory authority. It also stipulates that individuals must have at least five years of experience as registered contractors to be eligible for licensure.
