MANALAPAN, N.J. — Runners and walkers will descend on Monmouth Battlefield Park on Sunday for the return of the Racin’ for Bacon 5K, 10K, and 1M K9 Walk, a fitness event that blends community fun with pork belly and purpose.
Participants will take on routes through the historic Revolutionary War battlefield in celebration of the nation’s 249th birthday. Runners in the 5K and 10K will race through scenic trails, while walkers and their dogs are invited to participate in the 1-mile K9 Walk. All attendees will be rewarded with freshly grilled thick-cut pork belly bacon on a stick, provided by Btchi’N Bacon.
Organizers confirmed that medals and event t-shirts are guaranteed to the first 300 registrants. The event is open to all fitness levels, and same-day registration will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m., space permitting. Entry fees are $38 for the 5K, $48 for the 10K, and $20 for the 1-mile walk.
“This spring, join us for a run through a historic Revolutionary War battlefield as we celebrate our nation’s 249th birthday,” event organizers stated in the announcement. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough, which supports individuals with Down syndrome and their families through education and outreach.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance to avoid late fees, which increase by $10 one week before the event.
Support for Down syndrome programs
Proceeds from the Racin’ for Bacon event will benefit GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough, part of a nationwide network dedicated to increasing awareness of Down syndrome. The organization offers free educational and therapeutic programs to individuals with Down syndrome from infancy through adulthood.
Race day festivities will emphasize inclusivity, fitness, and community involvement, with participants urged to bring family members and pets. Walkers are welcome in both the 1M K9 Walk and the 5K race categories.
The event takes place at 20 NJ-33 Business in Manalapan, a location that has previously hosted various outdoor fitness events due to its accessible terrain and historical significance.
This year’s race coincides with early spring weather conditions, with organizers recommending that attendees arrive early for packet pick-up and check-in. T-shirt and medal availability is limited to early registrants, incentivizing prompt sign-ups ahead of race day.
