One lucky pick turns into massive jackpot win for Bel Air retiree
BEL AIR, Md. — A small lottery purchase quickly snowballed into a life-changing moment after a Bel Air retiree turned a simple win into something much bigger.
It started with a $5 scratch-off that brought in a modest $20 prize.
Instead of stopping there, he decided to roll the winnings into another ticket — a FAST PLAY game he didn’t usually play.
That decision changed everything.
Choosing the Super 777 game, partly because of his preference for the number seven, the retiree ended up landing a progressive jackpot worth $828,616.
The ticket was purchased at a Royal Farms on Churchville Road on Thursday, March 26.
Even after scanning the ticket, he wasn’t convinced.
Looking for confirmation, he went to another store, where a clerk verified the win — and even checked the Maryland Lottery website to be sure.
The realization fully set in only after he later saw a report confirming a winning ticket had been sold at that same location.
The winner, a retired manager, said he plans to use the money to pay off his home and car, take a vacation and invest the rest.
The retailer that sold the ticket will also receive a $1,000 bonus.
FAST PLAY progressive jackpots continue to grow with each ticket sold until a winning ticket is purchased — and for one Bel Air player, the timing couldn’t have been better.
