TOMS RIVER, NJ – If you live in Toms River’s barrier island water communities, you are now being advised to cut back on your outdoor water usage.
“New Jersey American Water customers are advised to limit their outdoor water usage to odd/even days, matching the day to your street address number,” said Art Gallagher, assistant to Mayor Maurice Hill. “Toms River residents of the barrier island…Ortley Beach, North Beach, Normandy Beach and Ocean Beach are serviced by New Jersey American Water.”
Mainland Toms River water provider Veolia, formerly Suez has not issued any water restrictions.
“The recent extreme heat wave has prompted customers to increase their water usage significantly over the last week, and while we did previously request voluntary odd/even outdoor watering, we are continuing to see significant demands on the system that now require us to make this a mandatory order,” stated Carmen Tierno, senior director of Operations of New Jersey American Water. “We are putting this restriction in place to support our ability to continue to provide water and fire protection services to our customers.”
