MANHATTAN, NY – Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the death of a 76-year-old woman found inside a Monroe Street apartment earlier this month, after the city medical examiner determined the case to be a homicide.

Authorities say officers from the NYPD’s 5th Precinct responded around 7:55 p.m. on December 19 to a 911 call reporting an unconscious woman at 18 Monroe Street.

When police arrived, they discovered the victim, identified as 76-year-old Zhu Hou, unconscious and unresponsive with visible trauma to her head and body. She was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel.

Following an investigation and autopsy, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. On December 20, police arrested Wei Hou, 41, of the same address, and charged him with murder.

Detectives have not released details regarding a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
