Son charged in death of 88-year-old father on Sandalwood Lane

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Montgomery County Police have arrested and charged Fabian Newsome, 48, in connection with the homicide of his father, 88-year-old David Newsome, at their shared residence in Gaithersburg. Police responded to a call on Monday evening, where they discovered the elder Newsome dead with visible injuries at a home in the 12000 block of Sandalwood Lane.

David Newsome’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. According to authorities, initial findings indicate signs of trauma.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division identified the victim’s son, Fabian Newsome, as a suspect during their investigation. Law enforcement officials confirmed that both men lived at the residence where the incident occurred.

On Tuesday, Fabian Newsome was taken into custody by the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was charged with first-degree murder and booked at the Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek additional information regarding the events leading up to the fatal incident.
