Police say the SUV struck a concrete barrier before overturning on Bay Road
DOVER, DE — A 27-year-old Dover man was killed Sunday afternoon after the SUV he was driving at an apparent high rate of speed crashed into a concrete barrier and overturned, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. Sunday, July 26, as a Lexus GX entered the northbound lanes of Bay Road from Exit 93.
According to the preliminary investigation, the SUV was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed and was changing lanes recklessly before leaving the roadway.
Police said the Lexus exited the west side of Bay Road, struck the center median Jersey barrier and rolled onto its side.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
Bay Road remained closed for approximately four hours while investigators processed the crash scene and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
