STAFFORD COUNTY, VA – A Stafford County deputy sustained minor injuries after being attacked by a man inside Mary Washington Hospital, authorities said.

The incident occurred on March 10 at approximately 12:13 p.m. as the deputy was assisting an individual seeking mental health resources at the hospital on Sam Perry Boulevard. While in the lobby, the deputy recognized 39-year-old Darrell Jackson of Fredericksburg from previous encounters.

Jackson suddenly advanced toward the deputy and initiated a physical confrontation. Hospital security and nursing staff intervened as the deputy activated his emergency radio button, prompting a large law enforcement response. Officers from the Fredericksburg Police Department, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, and Stafford Sheriff’s Office helped detain Jackson.

The deputy suffered minor injuries, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the attack.
