Stafford Man Arrested for DUI After Hit and Run Incident

October 11, 2024

STAFFORD, VA – A Stafford man has been taken into custody following a hit and run incident where he left the scene of an accident and subsequently fell asleep in his car nearby. This arrest occurred on Tuesday, when Deputy S.A. Edwards was dispatched at 3:15 a.m. to handle reports of the incident on Whitson’s Run. The initial caller alerted authorities about a white sedan striking an unoccupied truck before fleeing the scene. Upon investigation, Deputy Edwards discovered clues indicating the vehicle involved was a Toyota Camry.

A neighborhood canvass conducted by Deputy Edwards and Deputy T.G. Croson led them to discover a white Toyota Camry parked on Tanglewood Drive. The vehicle was occupied by a man asleep in the driver’s seat, with damage clearly matching that of the hit and run accident.

Upon waking the driver, deputies noted the individual’s bloodshot eyes and detected a strong smell of alcohol. The 31-year-old Stafford resident was then arrested on charges of DUI and refusal, apart from the hit and run. He was subsequently detained at the Rappahannock Regional Jail with a bond set at $2,500.
