A months-long investigation into a violent home invasion in Stamford reached a critical turning point this week after detectives tracked down the final suspect held out of state. The arrest closes a case tied to a September incident that led to multiple charges involving forced entry and alleged harm to a minor.
STAMFORD, CT – Stamford detectives traveled to Rikers Island on Tuesday to arrest Kenneth Stewart, 25, of Brooklyn, New York, in connection with an armed home invasion that occurred on Greenwood Hill Street on September 29. Authorities said Stewart was taken into custody and transported back to Stamford, where he now faces multiple felony charges.
According to the department’s release, Stewart was charged with Risk of Injury to a Minor, Criminal Attempt at Unlawful Restraint, Burglary in the First Degree, and Home Invasion. A $1,000,000 bond was set by the court, and Stewart was held before being arraigned in Stamford court earlier in the day.
Multi-agency effort led to arrest
The arrest marks the final development in a case involving four suspects. “Stewart is the last of four individuals that have been charged in relation to this incident,” the Stamford Police Department said in its statement.
Detectives had been working with multiple agencies for months to locate Stewart. While Stamford investigators were actively pursuing leads, the suspect was ultimately located earlier this month by the New York Police Department. “He was ultimately located by NYPD on 4/6/26 for a bus fare evasion and detained pending extradition,” the release stated.
Officials credited coordination between local, state, and federal partners for securing Stewart’s arrest and return to Connecticut.
Earlier arrests tied to same case
Three other individuals had already been arrested in connection with the Greenwood Hill Street incident in the weeks following the alleged crime. Police identified them as Mackell Scotland of Stamford, arrested October 13; Patrick Gonzalez of Stamford, arrested October 5; and Deborah Garcia of Stamford, arrested October 1.
Scotland and Gonzalez were both charged with Home Invasion, Burglary in the First Degree, Risk of Injury, and Criminal Attempt at Unlawful Restraint. Garcia faced charges of Conspiracy to Assault in the Third Degree and Conspiracy to Robbery in the Second Degree.
The department acknowledged the work behind the lengthy investigation. “The department would like to thank the NYPD and our federal partners for their efforts in this case and Detective Kerilyn Whitehead for her persistence in the pursuit of all offenders,” officials said.
