Police say a 14-year-old driver fled after striking the child before officers located the stolen vehicle a short time later

BALTIMORE, Md. — A 3-year-old girl died after being struck by a stolen vehicle in Southwest Baltimore, and police say the driver, a 14-year-old boy, fled the scene before officers tracked down the vehicle and detained him.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:01 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of West Pratt Street.

Responding officers found the child suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries.

Medics transported the girl to an area hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police said the vehicle that struck the child left the scene, and officers immediately broadcast a description of the vehicle.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as a 14-year-old male.

Investigators learned the vehicle had been reported stolen by a family member shortly before the fatal crash.

Detectives from the Baltimore Police Crash Team are leading the investigation.

Police have not released the identities of the child or the teen due to the victim’s age and the juvenile status of the suspect.
