YAPHANK, NY – Officer Kevin Farina of Suffolk County Police’s Sixth Precinct was presented with the prestigious New York State Liberty Award in a ceremony at Police Headquarters. New York State Senator Dean Murray and Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison honored the officer for his life-saving actions in June.

On June 24, while on his way to work, Officer Farina noticed an overturned vehicle off the road in Farmingville. He, along with two off-duty NYPD officers, acted quickly to pull two people from the vehicle as it caught fire.

The New York State Liberty Award is one of the highest civilian honors that an individual can receive in New York State. Officer Farina’s prompt and courageous actions have earned him this significant recognition.
