Suffolk County Police Safely Capture Escaped Iguanas

DEER PARK, NY – Officers of the Suffolk County Police Department received a call regarding a 3-foot iguana found outside a residence on Hawthorne Street on August 23 at 11 a.m.

The iguana made an attempt to escape and was followed into a yard on Ithaca Street.

Upon arrival at the Ithaca Street yard, officers discovered a second iguana that was twice the size of the first. Both reptiles were secured with the assistance of a resident who joined the officers in their effort.

Officer Donald Conste took a photo with one of the iguanas before transferring them to Jungle Bobs Reptile World in Selden.

If you encounter a loose reptile, the Suffolk County Police Department advises that you exercise caution and promptly call for assistance.
