Gunman shoots victim during attempted robbery inside Southeast DC business
WASHINGTON, DC – A brazen daylight shooting inside a Southeast Washington business has prompted police to release surveillance footage as they search for the suspect who opened fire on a fleeing robbery victim in August.
The incident took place around 2:12 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, in the 4600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. According to investigators, a man entered the business and confronted a victim inside, displaying a handgun and attempting to commit a robbery.
As the victim tried to escape, the suspect fired his weapon, striking the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. The injury was not described as life-threatening.
Surveillance cameras inside the business captured images of the suspect during the incident. Police released video this week in hopes the public can help identify him. Authorities have not said whether the suspect and victim knew each other or if the business was randomly targeted.
