Suspect arrested after threats with firearm near Navy Yard in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly threatening another individual with a firearm in the Navy Yard area of Southeast D.C., police said.

The incident occurred on December 19 at approximately 8:44 a.m. in the 200 block of M Street SE. The victim reported being approached by a suspect who made threats while holding a firearm. The victim was able to contact 911 and was not injured during the encounter.

First District officers quickly canvassed the area and located the suspect, who was found in possession of the weapon. Police determined that the firearm used in the offense was a blank pistol.

The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Derrick Bowser, who has no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Threats to Kidnap or Injure a Person.

The case remains under investigation as police work to determine additional details surrounding the incident.
