VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a bank robbery that occurred on Wednesday morning at the Truist Bank on Virginia Beach Boulevard.

At approximately 9:44 a.m. on August 28, the Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received an alarm indicating a robbery in progress at the bank. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), the suspect, later identified as Jakim Girard, entered the bank, demanded money from the tellers, and implied he was armed. He obtained an undisclosed amount of money before escaping.

The VBPD Violent Crimes Unit quickly launched an investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of Girard later the same day. Police reported that the arrest was made without incident.

Girard has been charged with two counts of Robbery, one count of Attempted Robbery, and three counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. The investigation is ongoing, but police have not disclosed whether any of the stolen money was recovered.
