SYRACUSE, NY – A man who broke into the home of a 60-year-old woman in Syracuse threatened to kill the woman after police arrived on scene.
On Sunday, at around 4:30 pm, police officers responded to the scene of an active home invasion on Mary Street after reports of a burglary in progress were called into police dispatch.
The 60-year-old woman reported that an armed man was trying to force his way into her home.
“When Officers arrived, they found the suspect attempting to walk out of the back door of the home. When the suspect noticed officers, he immediately ran back inside the house,” the Syracuse Police Department said. “Officers Francisco and Sims chased the suspect and located him walking up the stairs from the basement. The suspect, identified as Carmen Franklin, 31, from Syracuse, was quickly taken into custody.”
After searching the home, officers found the suspect’s loaded 9mm handgun in the basement. The gun was loaded with one round in the chamber.
“As a result of the investigation, officers learned this was not a random act. Franklin broke into the victim’s house and threatened to shoot her in the head,” the Syracuse Police Department said.
