BOSTON, MA – A 17-year-old boy is facing multiple firearm charges after police say he tried to escape officers during a scooter stop in Mattapan, tossing a loaded gun onto a rooftop before being caught.

The incident began around 6:29 p.m. Wednesday when officers responded to an attempted robbery on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. Boston Police said suspects on a scooter had tried to rob a victim of a firearm before fleeing toward Blue Hill Avenue.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the scooter refused to pull over. When officers boxed in the vehicle in traffic, the passenger fled on foot while the operator escaped.

During the foot chase, officers saw the juvenile suspect throw a gun onto the roof of a building on Talbot Avenue. He was taken into custody, and detectives later recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun with a flashlight attachment and twelve rounds in the magazine.

The teen was charged in Boston Juvenile Court with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.
