Teen arrested in attempted robbery and assault of woman in South Baltimore

A 17-year-old with a history of arrests was charged and released after allegedly assaulting a woman in an attempted robbery.

BALTIMORE — A 17-year-old girl was arrested in connection with an attempted unarmed robbery and assault that occurred late Wednesday night in the city’s Southern District, police said.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, the incident took place around 11:48 p.m. on May 8 as a 28-year-old woman was exiting her vehicle. The teen suspect allegedly assaulted the woman while attempting to rob her.

Southern District patrol officers responded to the scene and quickly identified the suspect. The 17-year-old was taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center, where she was charged with second-degree assault.

Police said the teen has a history of arrests related to burglary and auto theft. Following her arrest, she was released under electronic monitoring.

The victim did not sustain serious injuries, and no weapons were reported in the attempted robbery.

Suspect released under monitoring despite prior arrests

The Baltimore Police Department did not release the identity of the juvenile due to her age but confirmed the arrest was made within hours of the incident. Officials stated the case remains under active investigation.

Authorities have not stated whether additional charges may be filed. It is unclear if the suspect was acting alone or if others were involved in the incident.

The department encouraged anyone with further information about the assault to contact detectives in the Southern District.
