June 25, 2025

BRONX, N.Y. — An 18-year-old male who was shot in the buttocks earlier this month during a dispute in the Bronx has died from his injuries, and a 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the case, police said.

Officers from the 52nd Precinct responded to a 911 call around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, reporting a person shot at 18 West Kingsbridge Road. According to investigators, the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the victim and an unidentified individual who fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The victim, later identified as Rize Ashmeade, was transported by EMS to Saint Barnabas Hospital in stable condition at the time of the incident. However, police confirmed that Ashmeade succumbed to his injuries on Monday, June 16.

The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner subsequently determined the case to be a homicide following its investigation. No details were released regarding the exact cause of death or any additional injuries that may have contributed.

Ashmeade was a resident of the Bronx and was 18 years old at the time of his death.

On Tuesday, June 17, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police arrested a 17-year-old male within the same precinct in connection with the shooting. The suspect’s name has not been released due to his age.

He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said. It remains unclear whether the charges will be upgraded following the victim’s death.
