A 19-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds early Monday and later died at a local hospital.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A homicide investigation is underway after a 19-year-old man was fatally shot early Monday in Southeast Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Sixth District officers responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 6 to the 2500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast, after receiving a report of a person down.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died despite lifesaving efforts.

Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Turray Simms, of Northeast Washington.

No arrests have been announced.
