Teen shot in head during Akron parking lot ambush as suspects open fire on car

Police say juveniles tried fleeing gunfire before crashing into fence and rushing wounded teen to hospital

AKRON, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy was shot in the head after gunfire erupted in an Akron parking lot Friday evening, sending a group of juveniles crashing into a fence while trying to escape the attack, police said.

The shooting happened around 7:36 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a business in the 1000 block of South Arlington Street, according to the Akron Police Department.

Officers responded after receiving multiple calls reporting gunfire near the parking lot of Vapes R Us.

Police later received information that someone was transporting the victim to a hospital.

Investigators said officers located the vehicle as it arrived at Summa Health Akron, where they found a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The teen was admitted for treatment and evaluation.

Authorities said his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

According to preliminary investigators, three juvenile males were sitting inside a vehicle when suspects approached and opened fire.

Police said the juveniles attempted to flee the scene before crashing the vehicle into a fence.
