Teenager Shot and Killed in Columbus

Columbus, OH – Columbus Police officers responded to a shooting report on the 1000 block of E. Weber Rd. early Wednesday morning at 12:03 AM. Upon arrival, they discovered 16-year-old Me’Khi Keys with a gunshot wound. Keys was transported to Riverside Hospital by CFD Medic 16 and was pronounced dead at 12:35 AM.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Keys and another juvenile were walking eastbound when they crossed paths with two unknown males walking in the opposite direction. After a brief exchange, one of the males pulled out a handgun and shot Keys. The suspects then fled eastward before turning south, potentially down Howey Rd.

The police request residents with cameras in the vicinity of the incident to review footage. Potential video evidence can be uploaded directly to detectives via a provided link or QR code.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Harbin at (614) 645-0907 or DHarbin@ColumbusPolice.org. Alternatively, tips can be submitted to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477). Detective Harbin is leading the investigation with assistance from Detective Lemmon.
