PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Philadelphia police are searching for three teenage suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy inside a Chipotle restaurant near Temple University on Monday evening.
Officers from the 22nd District and Temple University Police responded to the restaurant at 1100 West Montgomery Avenue around 5:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a person with a gun. Inside the bathroom, officers found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Medics pronounced the victim, identified as 16-year-old Khyon Smith-Tate of the 2500 block of North Hutchinson Street, dead at the scene at 5:24 p.m.
No motive has been determined, and no arrests have been made. The Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and released descriptions of three possible suspects, all believed to be Black males between 16 and 17 years old.
The first suspect had dreadlocks and was wearing a black coat, a pink hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black sneakers, and carrying a red backpack. The second suspect was wearing a black coat, black jeans, black sneakers, and carrying a black backpack. The third suspect had dreadlocks and was wearing a black coat, blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers, and carrying a dark-colored backpack.
