BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Brick Township planning board spent nearly three hours before giving final approval to build a Smoothie King on the site of a mixed-use home on Chambers Bridge Road. The lot at 129 Chambers Bridge Road will be a stand-alone smoothie restaurant.

Smoothie King was founded by Steve Kuhnau in 1973 in New Orleans and has since grown to include 1,300 restaurants with 17 in New Jersey. While the brand has restaurants in Marlboro, Aberdeen, Red Bank and Middletown, the Brick location will be the first in Ocean County.

On Friday the planning board voted to approve the construction that will transform the lot on the northern side of Chambers Bridge Road, across the street from the Brick Commons plaza which includes ShopRite and Kohl’s. The owner, Brick Smoothies LLC will demolish the existing structure and build a new 1,169 square foot restaurant.
