Rumson, NJ – One of Monmouth County’s most recognizable dining destinations, Salt Creek Grille, will close its doors on December 31 after nearly three decades of serving upscale fare along the Navesink River.
The waterfront restaurant, once known as a gathering place for the area’s well-heeled crowd, announced the closure in a letter to patrons this week.

After 27 years, management confirmed the decision follows the end of the restaurant’s lease.

End of an era for a local landmark
Since opening in the late 1990s, Salt Creek Grille became a Rumson institution, known for its wood-fired menu, panoramic waterfront views, and lively social scene. The restaurant attracted families, couples, and business diners alike — many of whom celebrated milestones there over the years.
Averaging dinner prices of $50 or more per entrée, the restaurant built a reputation for upscale but approachable dining. Among its best-known offerings was “The Biddy Cut,” a signature steak dish long considered one of the largest and finest on the Jersey Shore.
Farewell message to patrons and staff

In its farewell letter, the Salt Creek Grille Rumson team thanked guests for nearly three decades of memories, from birthdays and anniversaries to quiet weeknight dinners. The message also praised the staff — some of whom have been with the restaurant for more than 20 years — calling them “the soul of Salt Creek.”
Eight weeks left to dine
The restaurant plans to remain open daily through New Year’s Eve, inviting customers to return for one final meal before closing. Management encouraged guests to share photos and stories online using the hashtag #SCGRumsonFarewell, celebrating what they described as “27 years of love.”
Legacy of a Jersey Shore favorite
Salt Creek Grille’s Rumson location has long been a staple of Monmouth County’s dining scene, balancing casual comfort with fine dining touches. While the brand operates other locations in the region, this waterfront outpost’s closing marks the end of one of the area’s most enduring restaurant chapters.
