Three Arrested in Sussex County Burglary and Police Pursuit

Lewes, DE – Delaware State Police have detained three men, Richard Francis, 34, of Hanover, Maryland, Marcus Gallmon, 20, of Washington, D.C., and Ilon Melson, 20, of Washington, D.C., on multiple felony charges after a burglary followed by a high-speed chase.

Early on Friday at approximately 2:35 a.m., a trooper patrolling Coastal Highway near Westcoats Road observed a black Honda CRV swerving on the road. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the vehicle sped away, prompting a pursuit. Shortly after, a burglary alarm was reported at Chic at the Beach on 18259 Coastal Highway in Lewes. The suspects, driving a black Honda CRV, had allegedly forced entry and stolen merchandise from the location.

The pursuit saw the suspects driving recklessly at high speeds, eventually crashing into an unoccupied vehicle on Ponder Avenue in Ellendale. The driver, identified as Ilon Melson, was apprehended at the scene. Other suspects, Marcus Gallmon and Richard Francis, fled but were eventually captured. Authorities are still working to identify and locate a fourth suspect involved.
