Sharon Kolb, Avi Berliner, and Amrit Ramjattan say their campaign will focus on collaboration, community engagement, infrastructure, and responsive local government.

TEANECK, N.J. — Three longtime community leaders have announced a joint campaign for the Teaneck Town Council, pledging to unite residents under the campaign slogan “One Team, One Teaneck.”

The slate includes Sharon Kolb, Avi Berliner, and Amrit Ramjattan, who collectively bring backgrounds in education, engineering, finance, municipal boards, and community service. The candidates said their campaign is centered on collaboration, civic engagement, and planning for Teaneck’s future.

“As residents, parents, professionals, and community volunteers, we know what makes Teaneck special,” the candidates said in a joint statement. “Our campaign is built on a simple principle: one community, one future, and one team working together for Teaneck.”

Candidates highlight experience in education, recreation, and infrastructure

Kolb has lived in Teaneck for more than 26 years and previously served as a special education administrator in both public and private schools, including the Teaneck Public Schools. She also serves on the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce Board, the Bergen County Jewish Action Committee Advisory Board, and the Teaneck Democratic Municipal Committee.

“Throughout my life, whether as an educator, volunteer, advocate, or caregiver, I have always believed in stepping up when there is a need,” Kolb said. “I am running for Town Council because I care deeply about Teaneck and believe that by working together, listening to one another, and focusing on solutions, we can continue to strengthen the community we all call home.”

Berliner, a financial services professional and 13-year Teaneck resident, currently chairs the Fields Advisory Board and Municipal Open Space Trust Fund Board. He has also served on the Playground, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and volunteers with local youth sports organizations.

“I’ve spent years working alongside residents to improve our parks, fields, and community spaces, and I want to bring that same practical, community-focused approach to the Town Council,” Berliner said.

Ramjattan immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to Teaneck as a child, graduated from Teaneck Public Schools, and earned an electrical engineering degree from NJIT. He previously worked with MTA New York City Transit managing major infrastructure projects and currently works in rail and transit engineering while serving on Teaneck’s Zoning Board of Adjustment.

“Teaneck welcomed my family when we arrived here as immigrants and has been my home for the last 25 years,” Ramjattan said. “As someone who grew up in this town and built my career managing construction and infrastructure projects, I am committed to helping our township plan responsibly for the future while preserving what makes our community special.”
