TINTON FALLS, NJ – As hunting season ramps up, police are reminding residents of where hunting is permitted in town and what restrictions are in place to keep everyone safe.
Officials say the Monmouth County Parks System allows bow hunting in designated areas, including Shark River Station Road between Shafto Road and the Shark River Bridge on the south side, and along State Route 33 between the Tally Ho Inn and Autumn Drive.
The Tinton Falls Police Department also noted that hunting outside county parkland is allowed under specific distance and safety regulations.
Key Points
- Hunting allowed in limited Monmouth County Parks and other designated areas in Tinton Falls
- Bow and shotgun hunters must follow strict safety zone distances from structures and playgrounds
- No discharge on Borough property and no night hunting permitted
Strict safety distances in place
For bow hunters, safety zones require a distance of at least 150 feet from any structure and 450 feet from playgrounds. For shotgun hunters, the required safety distance is 450 feet from both structures and playgrounds. Bow season runs through February, with shotgun season beginning at the end of November and peaking during the first week of December.
Hunting limits and exceptions
The Borough enforces a no discharge ordinance on all Borough-owned property, meaning hunting or the discharge of weapons is not allowed. Night hunting is also prohibited anywhere in Tinton Falls. However, duck hunting is permitted at the end of Leland Terrace and Riverdale Avenue West, where access to the Swimming River — classified as federal tidal water — places it outside Borough hunting restrictions.
Officials urge awareness and caution
Police encouraged hunters and residents to remain aware of these rules to prevent safety issues and confusion over permitted hunting zones. Those with questions about local hunting locations, regulations, or season dates are asked to contact Patrolman Joseph Mauer at 732-542-3400 ext. 478 or via email at jmauer@tfpolice.org.
