Toledo police refute viral claims of missing children found at residence

October 22, 2024

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Police Department addressed rumors circulating on social media Tuesday, denying claims that officers located eight missing children at a local residence. The department confirmed that the viral video showing uniformed Toledo officers did not depict a response related to any missing person investigation.

“Although the videos circulating in the post do show uniformed Toledo Police officers, the reason for their presence at the location(s) was not related to a missing person,” the department stated in an advisory. Officials emphasized that there have been no incidents of this nature reported or responded to by officers.

The advisory cautioned the public to seek information from reliable and verifiable sources, noting the potential for misinformation to spread rapidly on social media platforms such as TikTok.

Authorities encouraged residents to report emergencies by calling 911 and to contact Crime Stoppers at 419-245-1111 if they have information regarding any crime.
