Toms River Fire Department On Scene at Downtown Home Fire

TOMS RIVER-The Toms River Police Department is currently on the scene of a residential structure fire that broke out at 8:46 am. Police and Fire units responded to 8 Park Street as a result of a phone call from a resident within the home. Upon arrival everyone had exited the residence however there was already heavy smoke. Initial reports are that the fire began in a bedroom on the South side of the home and quickly spread. Fire units from Toms River #1and # 2 responded as well as Pleasant Plains, East Dover, Silverton, and Island Heights.

Firefighters are contending with a light snowfall and freezing temperatures that are below the 20 degree mark. The cold weather is causing icing conditions in the area as water flow off from the incident gathers on the roadway. Police and Fire agencies are working in conjunction with the Toms River Public Works Department to sand and salt the area prior to reopening the surrounding roadways which are currently closed.
